Haggen Donates to National Parks
Haggen is donating more than $40,000 to support the four national parks in Washington Oregon, which represents 2 percent of sales on Earth Day from stores in those two states.
The Bellingham, Wash.-based regional chain enlisted its Facebook followers to decide what percentage of the funds would be given to each of the four parks.
After a week-long vote, it's been decided that 31 percent ($12,433) will go to Olympic National Park; 27 percent ($10,829) to Rainier National Park; 26 percent ($10,428) to North Cascades National Park; and 16 percent ($6,417) to Crater Lake National Park.
As part of its continued philanthropic efforts, Haggen is also donating $1,000 to a single organization for each of its new store conversions, following its 146-store acquisition as part of the Albertsons-Safeway merger.
“We have a long history of giving back to the communities we serve. We want to demonstrate that commitment both in our new stores as well as our existing stores," said John Clougher, Haggen CEO of the Pacific Northwest.
Haggen currently operates stores in Washington, Oregon and California.
