GMA’s Black Assumes Leadership Role in Food Safety Alliance

Glenn Black, director of science operations, food protection at the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) will chair the newly formed Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPC) Alliance Steering and Executive Committee.

The alliance was formed by the Food and Drug Administration and the Bedford Park, Ill.-based  Institute for Food Safety and Health in response to the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 (FSMA), with the primary mission of developing a core curriculum and education materials to train stakeholders on the new regulations’ preventive control requirements.

GMA has always been a leader in food safety education and training, and our involvement in this area continues to grow as the food industry evolves into a manufacturing base with more local and international production facilities and global ingredient sourcing,” said Dr. Leon Bruner, the Washington-based trade organization’s chief science officer, who went on to note Black’s “extensive experience in food safety science [and] his considerable expertise in food safety training and education.”
