Giant Food Named Exclusive Partner of D.C. Pro Sports Teams

Giant Food has formed a multiyear legacy partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) making the Landover, Md.-based Ahold Delhaize banner the exclusive grocery partner of the Washington Capitals, Mystics, Wizards and Verizon Center.

“Monumental Sports has a long history of providing the Washington, D.C., area with events that bring friends and families together, a value we share,” said Giant Food President Gordon Reid.

The partnership will support and help develop programs to further Giant Food’s local community aims of hunger relief, improving the lives of children and building healthier communities. The grocer will also become the presenting partner of the Capitals and Wizards Kids Clubs and Verizon Center’s Family Show series. In this capacity, Giant Food will be part of special Kids Clubs events such as skills clinics and meet and greets, as well as being involved in the Kids Clubs’ contests and members’ monthly newsletters. Further, the grocer will become the presenting partner for Verizon Center’s Family Show series.

“[Giant Food’s] commitment to the community, and being deeply rooted in D.C. in particular, allows for an engaging legacy partnership for years to come,” noted said Patrick Duffy, SVP of corporate partnerships for MSE, which is based in the nation’s capital.

Giant Food operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs about 20,000 associates.
