Giant Eagle Launches Online Fuelperks! Mall
Giant Eagle Inc. has launched a new Web portal that enables users of its Giant Eagle Advantage Card to earn 10-cent per-gallon gasoline discounts with each $50 spent by for online purchases from more than 600 top brands and retailers.
The new online service -- dubbed fuelperksMall.com -- marks the first time the Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle has stepped outside of its role as a traditional supermarket retailer.
"As online shopping trends continue to increase, fuelperks! Mall will be a perfect complement for the 2008 holiday shopping season," said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan. "fuelperks! Mall provides consumers with the advantage of earning fuelperks! rewards when making online purchases," said Donovan, noting the online portal offers more than 25 retail categories to choose from.
When using fuelperks!, customers meeting purchase requirements earn a discount on each gallon of gas at GetGo with every $50 spent with the Giant Eagle Advantage Card inside Giant Eagle supermarkets and GetGo locations.
The grocer's Advantage Card automatically tracks customers' fuelperks! savings, which in turn, enables customers to redeem points by scanning their cards at GetGo pumps. There are no limits on the amount of fuelperks! savings a customer can accumulate, and savings can be accumulated up to the price of a free tank of gas (one vehicle only; maximum of 30 gallons) in one transaction.
Giant Eagle said a recent study conducted by Progressive Grocer's parent Nielsen Co. indicates that more than 85 percent of the world's online population has used the Internet to make a purchase, up 40 percent from two years ago. The study further shows that more than half of Internet users are regular online shoppers, making online purchases at least once a month.
Giant Eagle, Inc. operates 159 corporate and 61 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to more than 145 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
