Giant Eagle to Enter Joint Venture with C-Store Operator

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle Inc. has said it plans to expand into new retail channels by entering into a joint venture with Belle Vernon, Pa.-based Guttman Enterprises, which operates the Crossroads convenience store chain.

"The joint venture will pursue new marketing and merchandising opportunities in the convenience store and fuels business," Giant Eagle said in a statement, adding that further details about the venture will be released at a later date.

Guttman Enterprises operates 27 convenience stores, all open 24 hours, in Pennsylvania. A company spokesman could not be reached.

Giant Eagle currently manages fuel stations at some of its 120 supermarkets throughout Maryland, western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and northern West Virginia.
