Giant Eagle, Dress For Success Cleaners Launch Second Annual 'Klothes For Kids' Drive

PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle here and Santa Ana, Calif.-based Dress For Success Cleaners (DFS), the only national provider of in-store dry cleaning services for supermarkets, have launched the second annual "Klothes For Kids" community-based back-to-school clothes drive for needy children.

"Klothes For Kids" will continue through Aug. 31 at 190 Giant Eagle supermarkets throughout western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio. To start the current campaign, Cleveland Indians players Cliff Lee and Jason Michaels and Pittsburgh Pirates players Matt Capps and Mike Gonzalez each made clothing donations at in-store events. The Indians and the Pirates are Giant Eagle's Major League Baseball partners.

During the drive, customers are asked to donate new clothes and "gently used" coats and sweaters that will be cleaned at no charge and given to various area charities. In the drive's first year, Dress for Success Cleaners and Giant Eagle collected over 14,000 pieces of clothing; this year they plan to top that number by a wide margin.

"We have a long history of supporting initiatives that are designed to enrich a child's life and assist in their social, physical, and educational development," said Giant Eagle Marketing Manager of Community Relations Tina Thomson in a statement.

"Klothes For Kids serves as an extremely meaningful way for Dress For Success Cleaners, Giant Eagle, and the communities we mutually serve to work together to help thousands of deserving kids get off to a good start this school year," noted Dress For Success Cleaners c.o.o. Bruce Stegmaier.

Dress For Success Cleaners, founded in 1991, operates hundreds of stores in the United States and Australia.

Giant Eagle, the No. 1 supermarket retailer in the region, operates 142 corporate and 74 independently owned and operated supermarkets, as well as over 100 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia, and Maryland.
