Giant Eagle Acquires Specialty Pharmacy
In a move that will further enhance its multi-platform offerings, Giant Eagle has acquired Cleveland-based Rx21 Specialty Pharmacy, and will soon be able to provide enhanced clinical, operational and mail services to hepatitis C and organ transplant patients.
The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle’s SVP of Health and Wellness Brett Merrell said the deal fits well with the retailer’s ongoing efforts to “expand services and convenience for our customers” and enhance its specialized pharmacy expertise, “particularly at a time when two significant new Hepatitis C treatments are becoming available.”
In addition to accessing Rx21's expertise and clinical support, Giant Eagle’s specialty pharmacy customers suffering from Hepatitis C and transplant conditions will have 24-hour access to value-added pharmacy counseling and medication management services, including:
• Full support of prior authorizations
• Coordination of financial assistance, including co-payment assistance
• A dedicated team of patient-care support advocates
• Routine communication and updates with doctors' offices
• Drug administration counseling, including injection training when patients begin therapy
• Regular refill reminder calls
• In-store pharmacy pick-up
