Giant-Carlisle Offers Patriotic Art Contest for Kids
CARLISLE, Pa. -- As part of a long-running "A+ School Rewards" program, Giant Food Stores, LLC here is holding an art contest in which kindergartners through fifth graders get to create drawings expressing why they're proud to live in America. The contest began last week, and artwork must be submitted to a local Giant store by Feb. 5.
All pictures will be sent to the regional USO chapter, as a way to thank U.S. servicemen and -women for their sacrifices, according to Giant's A+ School Rewards Web site.
The work of 10 finalists will appear on the A+ School Rewards site from Feb. 19 to Feb. 23 so that members of public enrolled in the program can vote. Each store finalist will earn 500 points for his or her school, and the top 10 finalists will receive 1,000 points. The grand prize consists of a $100 savings bond, a classroom party, and 2,500 extra points for the school the winner attends. The winner will be announced at the end of next month.
A+ School Rewards enables area schools to earn cash for computers, sports equipment, band instruments, or any of their other educational equipments. Every time shoppers use the grocer's BonusCard, Giant donates 1 percent of participating customers’ total purchases to designated schools.
