Garren Departs UFFVA to Join National Restaurant Association

Washington, D.C. -- Donna Garren, Ph.D., a nationally respected food science specialist, has left the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association to join the National Restaurant Association as v.p. of health and safety regulatory affairs.

Garren had been with United for six years, serving as v.p. of scientific and technical affairs. At United, she was responsible for all produce food safety, food security and food quality issues and activities, science-based regulatory and legislative activities, and technical consultation for members.

Before joining UFFVA, Garren worked for Oxnard, Calif.-based Boskovich Farms, Inc. as director of research, development and product safety. Her duties at Boskovich included the development and implementation of produce food safety programs and management of new product research and development projects.

"Her extensive background and expertise in food science and nutrition will be instrumental in building and enhancing our proactive efforts in food safety and nutrition, as well as addressing important regulatory and technical issues facing the nation's 900,000 restaurants."

Garren is actively involved in numerous professional associations, including the International Association for Food Protection Fruit and Vegetable Safety and Quality Professional Development Group and the Institute of Food Technologists Fruit and Vegetable Division Executive Committee. She has served as a member of the United States Delegation to the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene.
