FreshDirect Raises Funds to Fight Breast Cancer
Online grocer FreshDirect is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October with an invitation to customers purchase dried strawberries from its site. For each purchase made, $1 will be donated to the American Cancer Society, with a maximum donation of $5,000.
"Donations help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking research, provide vital prevention and early detection information, advocate for all women to have access to lifesaving mammograms and treatment, and improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families," said FreshDirect director of marketing Dana Smith, who describes the company "a longtime partner of the American Cancer Society and its Hope Lodge facility."
Shoppers can buy a five-ounce bag of dried strawberries for $4.99 from www.freshdirect.com through Oct. 31. Scientific studies have identified strawberries as a source of cancer-fighting antioxidants.
Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect serves most of Manhattan and locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx, as well as parts of New Jersey, Westchester, and Nassau County.
