In celebration of its first anniversary, Southeastern Grocers LLC’s Hispanic-themed Fresco y Más opened seven new stores on June 14, holding simultaneous ribbon cuttings at 10 a.m. The locations, in Miami, Hialeah and Hollywood, Fla., include the banner’s first Broward County store, and bring the total number of Fresco y Más supermarkets to 18.
Additionally, all of the banner’s stores held a Profit Day, donating all profits generated on June 14 to The League Against Cancer, which provides low-income cancer patients with care and services at no charge. Further events undertaken with the organization include a June 14 Survivors’ Breakfast at the new store at 8855 Coral Way, featuring attendees that have benefited from The League Against Cancer’s services, and also including Fresco y Más and The League Against Cancer executives, and the June 16 presentation of the Profit Day donation during an evening Fresco y Más Birthday Celebration at the same store, with live entertainment, sampling, giveaways and more.
“Since opening our doors in Hialeah one year ago, Fresco y Más has seen fantastic success and support from customers in each community we now operate in,” said Ian McLeod, president and CEO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Grocers. “The League Against Cancer is an organization our customers have told us is important to them, so we’re kicking off our first official community partnership by hosting a Profit Day at all 18 of our Fresco y Más stores, donating every last cent of profit to The League Against Cancer.”
Continued McLeod, "As Fresco y Más enters its second year, we continue to be dedicated to providing our customers with an authentic Hispanic shopping experience and supporting organizations that provide invaluable services to the communities we operate in.”
Among the enhancements at the new stores are an all-new, full-service Latin butcher shop (Carnicería) with an expanded selection of fresh custom-cut meats; a refreshed produce department featuring a farmers’ market setting with a wider selection of tropical fruits; a new Cocina (kitchen) providing daily specials of freshly prepared, scratch-made family favorites; a new Dollar Zone where customers can get more than 600 everyday essentials for $1, from grocery and cleaning to health and beauty; a renovated bakery department offering an expanded selection of Hispanic pastries and local baked goods; an all-new café with an expanded seating area serving authentic Hispanic fare; an additional Wall of Value section offering weekly specials on popular items; and a new custom façade, bright yellow colors and store-wide bilingual signage.
Additionally, the banner’s new Low Price every day program offers more than 800 mainstay products, which are easily located by distinctive green-and-yellow arrow signage throughout the store. Under the program, prices will remain at the same price for at least six months.
