Food Lion Once Again Helps to ‘Stamp Out Hunger’

Food Lion Feeds has teamed up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the United States Postal Service, and food banks in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., in aid of the 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The grocer helped launch the campaign on Friday, May 8, with four 10,000-meal donations, consisting of both fresh and nonperishable items, to local hunger-relief organizations in Newark, Del.; Waldorf, Md.; and Richmond and Roanoke, Va.

"At Food Lion, we're passionate about helping to end hunger in our local communities," noted John Garlick, division VP for Food Lion's northern market. "As a grocer, we know there are families in our communities who are making tough choices to put food on their tables. At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and paying rent or medicine and buying groceries. That's why we’re so passionate about supporting important hunger relief campaigns like Stamp Out Hunger."

Food Lion has also joined with the NALC to give out specially marked Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive grocery bags to 4.3 million residents to help in the collection, which will be donated to local organizations.

Through Food Lion Feeds, the grocer has pledged to provide 500 million meals to needy people and families by the end of 2020. Food Lion additionally works with area food banks and feeding agencies to raise awareness of the issue of hunger and help eradicate hunger locally.
