Food Lion Feeds Reusable Bag Campaign Launches

Food Lion is doing its part to help the hungry during the summer through the Food Lion Feeds Reusable Bag campaign, which runs through June 30. The supermarket chain’s Summers Without Hunger Design-A-Bag Contest enabled kids to submit designs, with the winning artwork now featured on the store’s reusable bags.

Customers can buy the specially designed reusable bags for $1 at any Food Lion location. With the purchase of each bag, Food Lion Feeds will donate the equivalent of six meals to Feeding America and that nonprofit organization’s participating food banks.

The five winning designs were submitted by children ranging in age from 6 to 13 and living in South Carolina and Virginia. The grand-prize winner, Avamarie M., earned the honor of having her artwork featured on the front of the reusable bag, in addition to an iPad 2 and $2,000 donated by Food Lion Feeds to the local food bank of her choice. Each of the other four finalists’ artwork is featured on the opposite side of the bags and each also won an iPad, along with $1,000 donated by Food Lion Feeds to a local food bank of their choosing.
