Food Lion Bows ‘Hunger Has a Cure’
Food Lion has launched its annual “Hunger Has a Cure” campaign to support leading hunger relief organization Feeding America and its network of local food banks. The two-week campaign, which enables customers to donate $1 or $3 at checkout, runs through April 16.
“We know that it’s difficult for some families to provide food during the summer, especially since it’s a time when food donations typically drop while hunger needs increase,” noted Sherrii Webb, manager of community relations for Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion.
Customer donations will go to Feeding America, which will help provide eight meals per every $1 donated. According to Food Lion, the campaign has the potential to aid more than 40 Feeding America local food banks that serve the grocery chain’s participating communities.
Last year, Food Lion’s “Hunger Has a Cure” campaign donated more than $650,000 and 1.1 million pounds of food to help families seeking food assistance through the Feeding America network.
Food Lion is a subsidiary of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group.
