Food Lion Beefs up Security -- Cameras, That Is
SALISBURY, N.C. - Following a successful installation in four distribution centers, Food Lion ordered six more SentryVision SmartTrack security camera systems from Sentry Technology Corp., Ronkonkama, N.Y., to use in additional DCs.
The SentryVision SmartTrack is a traveling CCTV surveillance system, configured with two fully-programmable cameras mounted on a carriage that glides along a ceiling-mounted track. The system travels at speeds up to 13 feet per second, and provides 360 degrees of unobstructed views to eliminate blind spots. SmartTrack offers full-function pan, tilt, and zoom features, even in programmed tour mode. A flick of the joystick transfers control back to the operator to observe events as required.
"SmartTrack gives our loss prevention employees quality video, where they need it, when they need it," said Joe Darnell, manager of loss prevention operations at Food Lion. "With the SmartTrack traveling camera carriage we can cover our largest facilities with relatively few cameras. Operators find the system easy to use and it's effective both to deter unwanted activity and as an investigative tool."
