Food City/K-VA-T Names Center Store VP

Food City has appointed Dan Glei the company's VP of center store. Glei brings more than 25 years of industry experience to his new role.

"Dan has worked in the grocery and consumer packaged goods industry for a number of years, specializing in merchandising, private brands and most recently e-commerce," noted Steven C. Smith, president and CEO of Abingdon, Va.-based Food City. "I am confident that he will prove to be a valuable asset to our company, and that his service in this key position will enable us to continue to advance and improve upon our center store operations."

Before joining Food City, Glei held a number of roles at Ahold USA/Giant Food Stores, in Carlisle, Pa., among them SVP merchandising, SVP brand and format development, and SVP e-commerce.

At Food City, he will oversee all center store operations; guide the category management staff, space management team and grocery supervisors; and coordinate the company's CPG partners.

"Food City has a customer-first focus throughout all levels of the organization, which makes it very clear on what our priorities are every day," said Glei, who plans to relocate to the Abingdon area with his family.

K-VA-T Food Stores operates 106 retail food outlets under the Food City banner throughout the tristate regions of southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee.
