Food City Introducing Curbside Pickup Service

Food City has begun testing a new curbside pickup service at select locations throughout its Southeastern market area, with plans to expand the program to more stores in the next few months.

"At Food City, we’re always looking for ways to bring added value and convenience to our shoppers," said Food City President and CEO Steven C. Smith. "Our new GoCart program is literally changing grocery shopping as we know it."

GoCart enables customers to select their purchases online. After being filled by a professional shopper, orders are loaded into shoppers' vehicles when they arrive at the store. Customers can pay for orders by credit or debit; Food City charges a service fee of $4.99, regardless of the order size.

Customers can visit the Food City website to create an account, or log into their existing foodcity.com account. They can choose from thousands of items, including weekly specials, or search departments to add items to their carts. The Quick Cart feature permits shoppers to view previously purchased products, which can be added in one click by item, category or an entire list. Customers also can add digital coupons to their carts.When items have been selected, customers can select a pickup time ranging from three hours to several days later. 

Food City GoCart is currently available at stores in Kingsport, Johnson City, Knoxville, Powell and Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and Bristol, Va., with additional stores in Knoxville and Johnson City slated to roll out the service this month.

K-VA-T Food Stores operates 104 stores in southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee. The company recently purchased 29 Bi-Lo supermarkets in Chattanooga, Tenn., and north Georgia, which it's in the process of converting to the Food City format and banner.
