Family Dollar Stores Sept Same-Store Sales Rose 1.5 Percent
MATTHEWS, N.C. - Family Dollar Stores, Inc., a 44-state dollar stores operator, reported sales for the five-week period ended Oct. 2, of approximately $510.6 million, or 10.1 percent above sales of $463.6 million for the similar period in the prior fiscal year.
Sales in existing stores for the five-week period ended Oct. 2, 2004, increased approximately 1.5 percent above existing store sales for the similar period in the prior fiscal year, including an increase of approximately 4.5 percent in sales of hardlines and a decrease of approximately 8.6 percent in sales of softlines.
The 5,480 stores in operation include 18 that were opened during the five-week period ended Oct. 2, 2004.
According to a press release, the company expects sales in existing stores in the four-week period ending Oct. 30, 2004, to increase in the 1 percent to 3 percent range.
