Family Dollar Gives Food Strategy Exec V.P. title

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Discount chain Family Dollar Stores, Inc. here said yesterday it has named Boris Zelmanovich to the position of v.p.-merchandising strategy and operations, a new role that will allow him to continue supporting the retailer's food initiative while providing leadership on other merchandising initiatives.

"Our mission is to provide customers with a compelling place to shop," said Robert George, e.v.p.-merchandising, in a statement. "In support of this mission, last year we began to invest in an enhanced food strategy designed to provide our customers with more convenience and value. The cooler rollout is the first phase of this strategy, and Boris has been instrumental in the successful implementation of this program in more than 2,000 stores. In his new role, Boris will continue to support our food initiative while also providing leadership and project support for a broader array of merchandising initiatives."

Zelmanovich began his career with Family Dollar in May 2002 as director-retail space planning and was promoted to divisional v.p.-retail space planning in October 2002. Prior to joining Family Dollar, Zelmanovich was a principal with Blue Martini Software Consulting from 2000 to 2002 and was manager of Retail and Consumer Products Practice with Ernst & Young Consulting from 1998 to 2000.

With more than 6,000 stores in a 44-state area ranging as far northwest as Idaho, northeast to Maine, southeast to Florida, and southwest to Arizona, Family Dollar is one of the fastest-growing discount store chains in the United States.
