Fairway to Open 2nd Brooklyn Store

Despite its recent financial woes, Fairway Market will open a new store in the growing Georgetown community of Brooklyn in January 2017.

The 40,000-square-foot Ralph Ave. location “will feature a fresh new look and feel, with the same commitment to value, its extensive selection of products and only providing the best quality,” the New York-based grocer noted, citing a more accessible layout and more than 60,000 items – three times that of a typical grocery store – including natural and organic products, hard-to-find specialty and gourmet offerings, a full variety of conventional groceries, and an extensive prepared food section.

Fairway Group Holdings Corp. CEO Jack Murphy added that “this new store opening will create 250-plus jobs for the community.”

The company emerged from bankruptcy in July after having filed for Chapter 11 two months earlier.

The grocer’s first Brooklyn store opened in Red Hook in 2006 and underwent renovation after extensive damage caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, reopening the following year.

Fairway operates 15 stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
