Epic Roots, California Tree Fruit Agreement Link Up for Memorial Day Promo

SALINAS, Calif. -- Epic Roots here and the California Tree Fruit Agreement have joined together to promote California-grown mâche, a salad green originating in France, as well as peaches, plums, and nectarines, this Memorial Day.

Hosea Rosenberg, six-time winner of the Flat Iron Chef Competition in Boulder and executive chef of Jax Fish House in Boulder, Colo., has created a recipe -- Tilapia Tacos With Mâche and Grilled Nectarine Salsa -- that will be featured in Epic Roots' Memorial Day on-pack booklet. The recipe allows produce managers to cross-merchandise eight produce items.

In the Flat Iron Competition, the chef has one hour to use a secret ingredient and other ingredients chosen by the judges to cook an entree for 100 guests. The dish must use the secret ingredient as well as match the wine being poured with the main course. After tasting the dishes, the 100 guests -- as well as the four special judges -- each vote on the winner.

Epic Roots will apply an on-pack eight-page recipe booklet including the recipe, nutritional information, and helpful serving suggestions for mâche and California peaches, plums, and nectarines, as well as a 35 cents-off coupon to generate future repeat purchases of Epic Roots Mâche products.

The booklets will be applied on each retail pack for the United States, including all retail bags and clamshells of Epic Roots Mâche and Mâche Mixes shipped from May 16 through June 5, 2006.
