Dutch Ahold DC Workers Threaten Strike
AMSTERDAM -- Unionized logistics workers at the distribution and supply centers for Royal Ahold NV's Albert Heijn supermarkets in the Netherlands say they will go on strike if their demands, which include a 2 percent pay raise, aren't met, according to published reports.
A deadline of midnight, July 13 has been set for Ahold to accede to the FNV and CNV labor unions' salary demands. Otherwise, the strikes are scheduled to start July 17, potentially stopping daily deliveries entirely, according to the unions.
The unions also want Albert Heijn to use full- or part-time workers rather than temporary employees. The chain employs about 4,000 logistics workers.
Albert Heijn stores make up 22 percent of Ahold's worldwide retail sales.
