CVS Confirms Talks With Albertsons
BOISE -- CVS Corp. confirmed yesterday it had been in discussions with Albertsons here regarding the purchase of the supermarket chain's standalone Sav-on and Osco drugstores, but added that no agreement on any transaction between the Woonsocket, R.I.-based drugstore operator and Albertsons had been reached.
Albertsons, the nation's second-largest supermarket chain with about 2,500 stores, reportedly ended talks to be acquired by a group of investors, including Supervalu Inc., for $9.6 billion in cash and stock, according to numerous reports.
CVS operates more than 5,400 retail and specialty pharmacy stores nationwide.
