C&S to Close 3 White Rose Facilities

C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. will close three food distribution facilities in New Jersey in July. The locations were acquired in the bankruptcy purchase of Associated Wholesalers Inc. (AWI) and were part of the White Rose subsidiary. C&S does not plan to close the facilities in Pennsylvania that it also purchased from AWI.

The distribution centers, located in Carteret and Avenel, N.J., supply grocery, dairy and frozen food products, and those responsibilities will be shifted to other facilities in the region. The closing locations employ nearly 600 people and 45 will transition to offices in Edison, N.J.; others will be offered transition packages that include the opportunity to apply for openings at other C&S facilities.

The sale of AWI to C&S was finalized in late 2014.
