Complaint Filed Against Pharmacist Who Blocked Birth Control Refill
MADISON, Wis. - A Wisconsin agency is accusing a Kmart pharmacist of failing to refill a woman's birth control prescription because of his religious beliefs, The Associated Press reports.
The Department of Regulation and Licensing made its complaint against Neil Noesen over an incident in 2002 at a Kmart pharmacy in Menomonie, Wisc., in which he refused to transfer a birth control prescription to another pharmacy after he refused to fill it himself.
Christopher Klein, spokesman for the Department of Regulation and Licensing, said pharmacists have the right to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions, as long as they transfer the prescriptions to another pharmacy if the patient asks.
The complaint, which was filed with the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board, gave no details on Noesen's religious beliefs.
