Compare Foods Gives to Local Churches

To mark its latest contributions to a group of local churches participating in its monthly donation program, Compare Foods Supermarkets, a five-store grocery chain in Charlotte, N.C., will hold an official presentation of donations on Nov. 14 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. At the event, more than 11 area churches will receive the most recent contribution checks from Compare Foods.

Under the program, the churches collect Compare Foods receipts and submit them to the supermarkets to receive a percentage of the receipt totals as a donation.

“One of our basic beliefs is in giving back to the community,” explains Omar Jorge, general manager of Compare Foods. “Since our beginnings in 1989, Compare Foods has found a solid partner in faith-based organizations like churches and nonprofits.”

As of October 2011, Compare Foods has donated the following amounts to participating churches: Our Lady of Guadalupe R.C. Church, $64,820.26; St. Vincent de Paul R.C. Church, $10,770.46; Our Lady of Assumption R.C. Church, $ 8,939.94; St. John Neumann R.C. Church, $6,089.60; Camino Pentecostal Church, $3,683.41; and Tabernaculo de la Uncion Pentecostal Church, $3,494.01.

Projecting through the end of the 2011 calendar year, Compare Foods estimates that it will donate more than $100,000 to local churches.
