Closing Harris Teeter Store to Reopen as Carlie C’s
Harris Teeter will close its Holly Square store, in Laurinburg, N.C., on July 17, which will reopen under the Carlie C’s banner on July 20.
The Holly Square location opened in February 1978 and currently employs 61 associates. Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter began informing associates on June 20 of the store’s imminent closure. In the coming weeks, the company, which said it made the decision to shutter the store "only after careful consideration," will work closely with its associates to assist them through the closing process, offering them the opportunity to transfer to other locations. Those who don’t wish to transfer will get the opportunity to interview with Carlie C’s, a regional operator of supermarkets across North Carolina.
Harris Teeter opened nine stores last year and plans to 11 new locations during the 2016 calendar year in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. A wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., Harris Teeter employs about 30,000 associates and operates stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
Dunn, N.C.-based Carlie C’s operates 20 supermarkets in seven North Carolina counties.
