C&K Market to Help Soldiers Call Home

C&K Market Inc. is teaming up with nonprofit Cell Phones For Soldiers to encourage shoppers to donate gently-used cell phones to help U.S. troops call home.

Through May 21, residents can donate to the cause at any C&K Market banner, including Ray’s Food Place, Shop Smart and C&K Market. Benefactors of this year’s donation include the Oregon National Guard and the 235th Engineer Company (Sapper), a National Guard unit in Petaluma, Calif.

“C&K is proud to support this worthy cause that not only helps the environment by recycling old cell phones, but also contributes to our troops abroad,” said Rocky Campbell, VP, operations for C&K Market, Inc.  “Our hope is that our community members will bring in their old cell phones that they were planning to discard and donate them to this excellent organization.”

During the past two years, C&K Market customers donated more than 2,100 cell phones to Oregon- and California-based troops. This year, C&K Market, with the support of the Santa Rita Wine brand, has set a 1,250 phone goal.

Brookings, Ore.-based C&K Market operates more than 40 grocery stores.
