Chocolate for Christmas
Panettone, the traditional Italian yuletide sweet bread, will be available this holiday season in a chocolate chip version made with Hershey’s chocolate, according to Miami-based Bauducco Foods USA, the best-selling panettone brand in the United States and a subsidiary of Bauducco Brazil. While it uses a basic recipe that hasn’t changed in six decades, along with a dough starter or “mother yeast” brought over from Italy by founder Carlo Bauducco, the new variety shows that the company isn’t afraid of innovation. Bauducco also makes a traditional panettone with dried papaya, lime, orange and Sun-Maid natural raisins. The new Chocolate Panettone variety will come in 500-gram (six servings) and 750-gram (nine servings) sizes, at a suggested retail price of $6.99 to $8.99.
