Carrefour Says it Has No Plans to Enter U.S. Market

PARIS - French supermarket group Carrefour today denied market talk that it was interested in acquiring Kmart, Reuters reports.

A group spokesman told Reuters that Carrefour Chairman Daniel Bernard had said last week that the group had no acquisition plans in the United States.

He pointed to a March 9 interview in French financial weekly, the Journal des Finances, in which Bernard said Carrefour was not eyeing the United States.

"It's a big country where we are not present and for which we have no plans," Bernard said in the interview.
