Café Valley Names ‘Soda Cakes Display Contest’ Winner

Café Valley Bakery has awarded the $5,000 grand prize for its “Soda Cakes Display Contest” to Tracie Skinner, bakery manager for Reasor’s, and store director Thomas Beard, for building a massive display of 7UP and Orange Crush Cakes at their store in Owasso, Okla.

The winning display also won the team an in-store cooking demonstration by Food Network chef Danny Boome, host of “Donut Showdown.”

"Our judges selected the entry from Reasor's store in Owasso, OK based on its creativity, huge display of cakes and sodas, and its overall visual impact," said Brett Morrison, VP of Sales for Café Valley Bakery. “Their creativity was outstanding and Tracie, Thomas and their team truly went above and beyond to earn the winning Grand Prize."

Hundreds of participating stores paired the 7UP Cakes with two new iconic Soda flavors – A&W Root Beer Float Cake and Orange Crush Cake – for a nationwide contest for retailers to win cash prizes for the “Best Display” and “Top Unit Sales.” Entrants also competed within their own chains for $1,000 in prize money.

Beard gave his prize money to his two co-fresh managers, James Human and Derek Brooks, for their contribution to the winning design.

The results of the 17-week promotion increased average weekly sales by 173.36 percent.
