Brookshire’s Golf Benefit Raises $375,000

More than 540 golfers converged on five country clubs in and around Tyler, Texas, late last month for the 24th annual Brookshire’s Benefit Golf Tournament, which raised a record $375,000 for children’s nonprofit organizations.

After the five simultaneous tournaments, Brookshire Grocery Co. President and CEO Rick Rayford unveiled total proceeds at a vendor appreciation dinner at Harvey Convention Center. About 200 vendor companies were represented as either golfers, sponsors or donors. Since its inception, the tournament has raised a little more than $3 million for nonprofit groups.

“This is a popular event that helps us help many children’s programs,” Rayford said. “We cannot thank our vendors enough for their support. It makes a huge impact in our communities.”
Proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network, Children’s Advocacy Centers, March of Dimes, Champions for Children and many other children’s programs located throughout Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods market areas in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

This year’s ruby sponsor was Pilgrim’s Pride, while platinum sponsors included Bunzl, Hormel, Procter & Gamble and Kellogg’s. Silver sponsors were Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Fresh Express, Nestle Purina, Heinz, Smithfield and McCormick.

Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. operates 152 stores in three states, plus three distribution centers and seven manufacturing facilities.
