Brookshire Grocery Co. Launches Kids’ Healthy Eating Magazine

Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) has launched “Celebrate Cooking,” a monthly free magazine aimed at helping shoppers prepare healthy -- and fun -- meals for their children.

“You can make easy, small changes at home,” said Maggie Griffin, BGC’s staff nutritionist. “Don't announce that you're all embarking on a new healthy journey -- that’s a sure-fire way to meet resistance. Instead, just do it.”

The magazine offers simple tips such as serving a bag of 93 percent fat-free microwave popcorn instead of potato chips to save on calories and fat, or taking kids for a walk around the block after dinner before settling in for TV or video games.

To complement the print publication, Griffin created an online library of articles, recipes, videos and tips on BGC’s Web site, and also has a phone hotline and e-mail contact information available to answer shoppers’ food-related concerns.

Tyler, Texas-based BGC operates 156 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
