Bi-Lo/Bruno's Opens In-store Health Clinics
MAULDIN, S.C. -- Two Bruno's supermarkets in Alabama and one Bi-Lo in South Carolina have opened Wellspot Health and Wellness in-store centers, adding to the list of supermarkets that are taking one-stop shopping to a new level.
The new 12-foot-by-18-foot, walk-in kiosks are in the Bruno's at 335 Summit Blvd. in Birmingham and 3780 Riverchase Village in Hoover, Ala.; and in the Bi-Lo at 1315 S. Pleasantburg Dr. in Greenville, S.C.
They are the first clinics to be opened by Birmingham, Ala.-based Wellspot, according to Wellspot's operations manager, Ronda Corrin. "We opened the clinics in mid-February," Corrin told Progressive Grocer. "We expect to have 10 open by the middle of the summer, but not all will be in retail locations. Some will be stand-alone."
Although Wellspot has a radius agreement with Bi-Lo/Bruno's, the company is looking for other possibilities to partner with retailers in the Southeast, said Corrin.
Each of the initial Wellspot clinics is staffed by one family nurse practitioner, who can provide treatment and diagnosis for routine conditions to one patient at a time. The centers include a waiting room for other patients. The clinics provide prescription services, diagnostic tests, immunizations, vaccinations, physicals, illness management, and wellness counseling.
The centers are open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
Initial visits cost $49, excluding tests or other services, and most insurance plans are accepted. Repeat visits are $39.
BI-LO Holdings LLC, the parent company of BI-LO LLC and Bruno's Supermarkets Inc., operates 340 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
