Bi-Lo Holdings Launches Smartphone Coupon App

Bi-Lo Holdings LLC has introduced a smartphone app and improved websites for its Bi-Lo, Harveys and Winn-Dixie banners to deliver personalized digital coupons based on shopper preferences. The effort is in partnership with Coupons.com.

"Our customers' shopping habits vary, so it's important that we provide a grocery shopping experience that is personal," explained Bert DuMars, VP, digital marketing at Jacksonville, Fla.-based Bi-Lo Holdings. "The coupons on our new app and site are unique in that they are delivered to each customer based on his or her shopping behaviors and geographic interests, and then prioritized so those that most closely match their preferences appear first. No other grocer in the Southeast offers this kind of personalization."

Among the additional features of the mobile app and website are a virtual rewards card enabling customers to redeem coupons, earn fuelperks! rewards and track savings when scanned at the register; a shopping list with scan functionality; fuelperks! rewards and coupon savings balances; GPS-enabled location finders to seek out grocery stores and fuelperks! gas stations; and a weekly circular tailored to each store.

Winn-Dixie shoppers, who are the first to receive the new digital offerings, are now able to access personalized coupons on a new web platform and download the My Winn-Dixie mobile app free via iPhone and Android app stores. The program will roll out to Bi-Lo and Harveys customers in the summer.

"With the new app and site, our customers will never have to physically clip a coupon again," said DuMars. "Customers who also take advantage of Apple Pay can essentially redeem digital coupons, earn fuelperks!, unlock everyday savings and pay for their groceries, all from their mobile phone." Bi-Lo Holdings introduced Apple Pay at its stores last November.

The fifth-largest conventional supermarket chain in the United States, Bi-Lo Holdings employs almost 72,000 associates in about 790 grocery stores, 143 liquor stores and 527 in-store pharmacies throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
