Bi-Lo and Bruno's Tap Payment Services Provider to Reduce Check Fraud

MAULDIN, S.C. -- Bi-Lo and Bruno's, two chains with a combined store count of more than 400 supermarkets in the Southeast, have contracted with a payment services provider to gain efficiencies and reduce the incidents of check fraud at their stores.

The two retailers will use the check authorization and collection services of Certegy, Inc. The solution, called Pathways, provides up-front check authorization in cases where the retailer assumes the risk for fraudulent checks.

St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Certegy's risk management system, combined with its check recovery service, makes the payment process more efficient by significantly reducing risk at the time of payment and collecting checks returned for insufficient funds, thereby lowering retailers' overall check expense.

"As an industry leader, Certegy is the ideal check risk management provider by making the purchase easier for customers who prefer to pay by check, in addition to reducing our cost of check acceptance," stated John Symons, BI-LO e.v.p. of store operations.
