AWG to Deploy New Supply Chain Solution
KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- Retailer-owned wholesaler Associated Wholesale Grocers plans to install a new supply chain solution to help streamline its operations across its extensive distribution network.
AWG will deploy RedPrairie's DLx Warehouse, DLx Transportation, DLx Labor, and various enterprise solutions, including event management, scorecard, visibility, slotting, time and attendance, modeling, and QA control.
AWG's seven distribution centers deliver to 2,246 retail outlets, including nonmember customers of its wholly owned subsidiary, Valu Merchandisers Co. However, the company's current legacy systems and highly customized third-party supply chain solutions offered little flexibility for business growth, and lacked end-to-end visibility and access to real-time information. "Our team initially started out looking at a pure WMS solution," said Rich Vastine, corporate director of industrial engineering at AWG. "However, it became evident to us that a 'cradle to grave' integrated solution set would best serve our customers."
AWG serves more than 1,500 member stores in a 21-state distribution from seven distribution centers that total more than 5 million square feet. These include five Midwestern grocery distribution centers located in Kansas City, Kansas; Springfield, Mo.; Okalahoma City, Okla.; Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and Southaven, Miss., as well as two other facilities in Ft. Scott, Kan. and Memphis, Tenn. that are part of Valu Merchandisers.
