Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast Runs First TV Ad in 5 Years

Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast has recently introduced a TV ad – the product line’s first since 2006 -- as well as the second of a three-part social video series featuring real employees from its Jackson, Tenn., plant: Jennifer Franklin, Charley Schumaker and Susie Tomlinson. The first video emphasized the products’ “just-like-homemade” process, while the new video highlights the quality ingredients that go into Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes and Frozen Waffles.

Created by New York- and Los Angeles-based Jun Group and directed by Kevin Arbouet, the TV commercial was originally meant for the Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast Facebook page, but the company decided instead to show off its newly refreshed frozen pancakes and waffles, which now feature simpler ingredients before an even broader audience. The TV spot will air in the select markets of Hartford, Conn.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Tampa Fla.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Charlotte, S.C.; Providence, R.I.; Orlando, Fla.; Jackson, Tenn.

“What started solely as a social and digital campaign changed when we saw how well people responded to Charley, Susie and Jennifer in the first video,” explained Andy Reichgut, vice VP of marketing of frozen meals, Mountain Lakes, N.J.-based Pinnacle Foods LLC, maker of Aunt Jemima products. “It was an easy decision to extend the campaign and feature our second video on TV, in addition to social media.”

The famous brand vows to keep on turning to its consumers to evaluate and update its products, adds Reichgut. “We wanted to let America know that because we use real ingredients like the ones you can find in your own kitchen -- milk, flour, eggs -- our frozen pancakes and waffles taste just like homemade,” he noted. “And as proud as we are of what do put in our products, we’re just as proud of the ingredients we don’t use.”

Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast also recently formed a partnership with celebrity chef Aaron McCargo Jr., who has developed new recipes using the brand’s products.
