The full text of May's letter to customers for stores set to close appears below:
Dear Customers,
Today our company announced that it has executed agreements to sell approximately 120 stores and we filed for bankruptcy protection. While we wanted you to be aware of this important development, we expect there will not be any impact on your shopping experience at this time. The vast majority of our stores remain open for business and we will continue to serve your shopping needs during this process.
In addition, the Company announced that we will close 25 stores. This store is one of the stores that will be closing within the next few months. Until then, this location remains fully stocked, and we will continue providing you with the same high-quality products and excellent service that you’ve come to expect from us. We will also continue to honor all existing customer promotional and loyalty programs.
In the coming weeks, we will be running significant mark-downs on many of our products. We encourage you to continue to visit this store, up until we close our doors.
When this store has closed, we encourage you to visit our other stores, which include A&P, Best Cellars, Food Basics, The Food Emporium, Pathmark, Superfresh and Waldbaum’s. Serving our customers has been and will continue to be our #1 priority.
We recognize that you may have questions about this announcement and encourage you to visit www.apteanotice.com.
We are committed to keeping you fully informed along the way – if anything should change at this store, we will be sure to let you know. Until this store closes, your shopping experience today should not be much different than any other and we are here to serve you.
We appreciate your support and thank you for your continued business.
Sincerely,
Greg Mays
Chairman
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc.
