Amazon to Hire Another 100K
Amazon.com plans to create 100,000 full-time, full-benefits jobs in the United States over the next 18 months, hiring people across the country with all types of experience, education and skill levels.
From engineers and software developers to entry-level positions, many of the roles at the Seattle-based e-commerce company will be in new fulfillment centers that have been announced over the past several months and are currently under construction in Texas, California, Florida and New Jersey, among other states. In addition to direct job creation, Amazon businesses such as Marketplace and Amazon Flex will continue to create hundreds of thousands of jobs for people across the country seeking the flexibility to start their own businesses, work part-time or set their own schedules.
Among the states where new jobs will be created are:
- California: Four new fulfillment centers will bring a combined 4,000 new jobs to communities such as Sacramento and Tracy.
- Florida: Two new fulfillment centers, to be built in Jacksonville, will bring Amazon's workforce in the state from 4,000 to more than 6,500.
- Illinois: Four fulfillment centers are under construction in Monee, Aurora and Waukegan, all of which will bring a combined 7,000 jobs to the state when construction completes later this year.
- Kentucky: More than 1,000 new jobs at Amazon will come to the state this year.
- New Jersey: Planned new fulfillment centers in the state will create 2,500 positions.
- Texas: A new fulfillment center in Houston will create more than 1,000 positions, and its corporate office in Austin has openings for hundreds of associates.
“Innovation is one of our guiding principles at Amazon, and it’s created hundreds of thousands of American jobs," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO "These jobs are not just in our Seattle headquarters or in Silicon Valley, they’re in our customer service network, fulfillment centers and other facilities in local communities throughout the country. We plan to add another 100,000 new Amazonians across the company over the next 18 months as we open new fulfillment centers, and continue to invent in areas like cloud technology, machine learning, and advanced logistics.”
