All Piggly Wiggly Stores To Accept Biometric Payments
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Following a successful six-month pilot, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. yesterday started to deploy biometric payment services to its 120 stores throughout South Carolina and Georgia.
The company-wide rollout began yesterday in this market, with the first transaction at a special media event at the West Ashley location. By the beginning of June, all Piggly Wiggly shoppers across the two states will be able to pay for groceries with a finger.
"We tested Pay By Touch at four stores in South Carolina and found that our guests loved paying for their groceries with a quick finger-scan, because of the convenience of not having to fumble with wallets at check-out," said Rich Farrell, v.p. of information services at Piggly Wiggly. "We also found that frequent Pay By Touch users saw Piggly Wiggly as more dedicated to providing better customer service -- and that is very important to us."
Shoppers can enroll at Piggly Wiggly stores at the guest services counter, or by visiting www.paybytouch.com. Shoppers select the credit or debit accounts they want to enroll in a finger-accessed, electronic Pay By Touch wallet. These accounts include Express Checking, which is a direct electronic withdrawal from an existing checking account, and/or any existing major credit cards, plus their PFC PFC/Greenbax rewards card.
Shoppers can also use their fingers to pay for transactions at any retailers that participate in the Pay By Touch program, without having to re-register at every retailer.
