Albertsons' Newly-acquired Raley's Stores to Feature Best of Both Grocers

BOISE, Idaho - Although the 10 New Mexico Raley's stores to be bought by Albertsons LLC will fly the Albertsons banner, its offerings will include "the best of each," Bob Colgrove, SouthWest Division president of Albertson's LLC told Progressive Grocer.

"Over the next 60 days, as we wait for the deal to close, we'll examine what they've done well in this market, and what concepts we can add from our stores," said Colgrove.

Some of the features Albertsons may bring to the table may include its increased focus on and wider variety of fresh products - including its new choice beef program, as well as some of its new programs for enhancing the shopper experience.

"Albertsons has been in New Mexico since the early 70s, and we are very fond of the market," said Colgrove. "The acquisition will allow us to double our base of stores in New Mexico, and gives us a new market entry with the Raley's Taos store."

Today, Albertsons operates 28 stores throughout New Mexico, eight of which are in the Albuquerque marketplace. After the acquisition is complete, the acquired stores will become part of Albertson's LLC's Southwest division. Based in Tolleson, Arizona, the Southwest division operates 78 stores in Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.
