Albertsons Names Bob Miller CEO Amid Executive Restructuring

Albertsons has named current Executive Chairman Bob Miller to assume the additional role of chief executive officer, as part of a four-person office of the CEO executive team.

In addition to Miller, the office of the CEO will comprise Wayne Denningham, COO for all divisions; Justin Dye, chief administrative officer; and Shane Sampson, chief marketing & merchandising officer.

Robert Edwards, who was chairman and CEO of Safeway and had been appointed Albertsons CEO at the closing of the Albertsons-Safeway merger earlier this year, will move into a vice chairman role, in which he'll "provide counsel to the board and the organization on key strategic and integration matters," the company said.

Together, the newly restructured executive team will support the day-to-day operations of the company’s 14 divisions and 2,200 stores. Jim Perkins and Kelly Griffith will continue to serve as EVP of operations for the company’s regions and will report to Denningham.

"We’ve made significant strides in the time since the merger has closed, and I feel comfortable turning my focus to other matters that will be of the best benefit to the company," Edwards said.

Denningham began with Albertson's Inc. in 1977, most recently serving as president of the company's Southern California division since March 2013, before being named to oversee operations for the South Region at the time of the merger's closing.

Dye joined Albertson’s LLC in 2006 as chief strategy officer before being named COO of New Albertsons's Inc. in 2013. In February 2015, he was appointed chief administrative officer with responsibility for IT, supply chain, corporate development, real estate and integration management.

Sampson was named president of the company's Shaw's and Star Market banner in 2013, and subsequently president of Jewel-Osco the following year. At the time of the merger, he was appointed EVP of marketing & merchandising.

Cerberus-owned AB Acquisition LLC operates 2,200 stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia under 18 banners, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United, Pavilions, Star Market, Market Street, Amigos and Carrs.
