Albertsons LLC Said to Fold Preferred Card in Dallas-Ft. Worth

BOISE, Idaho - Albertsons LLC plans to discontinue its Preferred card program in its Dallas-Fort Worth stores, and instead will offer discounted items to all its shoppers as a way to differentiate itself in the highly-competitive market.

The retailer began collecting customers' cards Wednesday to be recycled, and has posted signs in its stores promoting the new program, according to press reports.

William Emmons, president of Albertson's 69-store Dallas-Ft. Worth division said the new program puts every customer on a level playing field every day.

For the last few months, Albertson's has been phasing out the card in its other markets, including Phoenix and Denver.

While Albertsons said the strategy is driving higher customer counts, it would not coment on specific numbers, according to local press reports.
