Albertsons Installs Biometric Payment Systems in Jewel-Osco Stores
BOISE, Idaho -- Letting your fingers do the buying is getting easier in greater Chicago, at least if you shop at Jewel. Following a successful year-long pilot in the Northwest, Albertsons is busy rolling out a biometric payment system at all of its Jewel-Osco locations.
Supplied by San Francisco-based Pay By Touch, the biometric systems began appearing in the Chicago area early this year. The rollout is expected to be completed in all 204 Jewel-Osco stores this month, making it the largest market-wide launch of any retailer that has adopted this leading-edge technology.
"At Albertsons we are committed to helping make our customers' lives easier," said Pam Powell, Albertsons s.v.p. of customer service. "With this technology, customers can pay for their groceries with the touch of a finger without having to present cards, checks, or cash, reduce their risk of theft, and move through the checkout lines more easily and significantly faster."
The Pay By Touch system at Jewel uses a finger scan to authorize an electronic transaction from a customer's existing checking account, while automatically honoring the Jewel-Osco Preferred Card. Customers may choose to link both their checking accounts and their Jewel-Osco Preferred Card to the Pay By Touch system.
Albertsons' divisions and subsidiaries operate approximately 2,500 stores in 37 states across the U.S. and employ approximately 240,000 associates. Its banners include Albertsons, Acme, Shaw's, Jewel-Osco, Sav-on Drugs, Osco Drug, and Star Market, as well as Super Saver and Bristol Farms, which are operated independently.
