Albertsons Converting Dallas Fresh Markets to Tom Thumbs

Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons Companies Inc. will reopen three stores it purchased from The Fresh Market and an existing Albertsons, all in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, under its Tom Thumb Food & Pharmacy banner.

The former locations purchased from the Greensboro, N.C.-based specialty grocer, which closed them in May, are in Fort Worth’s University District and Dallas’ Lakewood and Turtle Creek neighborhoods, while the Albertsons is in the city of Wylie, The Dallas Morning News reported. The Fresh Market also closed a store in the nearby suburb of Southlake, but Albertsons didn't purchase it.

The stores will finish rebranding in mid-October. New amenities will include sushi, pizza bars and gourmet bakeries, as well as a Starbucks coffee bar in the Turtle Creek and University District locations. Customers also may expect to find an expanded assortment of local and organic products.
