Albertsons and Coca-Cola Team For Black History Month Celebration

BOISE, Idaho -- In honor of Black History Month, Albertsons and Coca-Cola are teaming up to make donations to African-American non-profit organizations nationwide.

This year, the fourth time the two companies have collaborated on the program, Albertsons and Coke have pledged to contribute $125,000 to organizations with ties to African-American communities -- an increase of $25,000 over last year's contribution and the partnership's largest annual Black History Month donation to date.

This year's donation will be accompanied by special in-store promotions and events featuring African-American-owned manufacturers' products at Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Shaw's, and Star Market stores during the month of February.

Citing an ongoing commitment to building a diverse supplier base, Albertsons said the 2005 Black History Month program will feature twice as many suppliers as last year and the highest number of African-American manufacturers and distributors since the program's inception. In February, these suppliers' products are being featured in weekly ads and accompanied by in-store signage identifying the items for customers. Select store locations will support the program with a wide variety of in-store activities, such as product sampling and cooking demonstrations, prize giveaways, and celebrity appearances.

"African-American entrepreneurs have played a significant role in this country's economic success, which is why Albertsons is proud to celebrate their accomplishments by showcasing the products of our African-American business partners in our stores throughout Black History Month," said Larry Johnston, chairman, c.e.o., and president of Albertsons. "We are also privileged to join Coca-Cola in making a donation to African-American organizations committed to the preservation of African-American history and culture in our country."

"Coca-Cola is proud to partner with Albertsons to support these important local organizations that are devoted to the preservation and dissemination of African-American history in cities across the nation," said Dan Marr, president, North America sales, for Coca-Cola Enterprises. "Our Black History Month program not only recognizes the significant business accomplishments of leaders in the African-American community but also celebrates the important cultural contributions they've made nationwide."
