Ahold, Safeway Latest Supermarket Chains Join NRF

WASHINGTON -- Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway and global retailer Ahold, based in Amsterdam, are the latest grocers to join retail trade group the National Retail Federation here.

NRF said yesterday that 211 retail organizations had recently joined its membership. Other retail formats and channels of distribution belonging to the group include department, specialty, discount, catalog, Internet, independent stores, chain restaurants, drug stores, and industry partners.

NRF said it aims to provide its members personalized resources and innovative services, including operational committees and councils related to finance, human resources, loss prevention, information technology, government affairs, marketing, merchandising, and supply chain.

The trade group offers education and research including over 100 educational workshops through its conferences, including "Retail's BIG Show," NRF's Annual Convention & Expo. Other events include: Loss Prevention Conference and Exhibition, the Retail Advertising Conference, and the NRF DecisionMaker Series, which includes: CEO Summit, CFO Summit, CMO Summit and NRFtech - The IT Leadership Summit.
