Ahold Ends Disco Sale Talks with Casino
AMSTERDAM - Dutch retailer Ahold confirmed on Friday that talks over the sale of its Disco chain in Argentina to French retailer Casino and businessman Francisco de Narvaez had ended, Reuters reports.
Ahold said it was still in talks with other interested parties, but a spokesman declined to identify them.
Chile's Cencosud dropped its bid for Disco last month.
Analysts said that outstanding legal claims related to Disco were likely to have been the main obstacle to reaching a deal with Casino.
The planned sale of Disco is a key step in Ahold's withdrawal from South America.
