Ahold to Add Key Kiosks in Super Stop & Shops

Ahold will place smart kiosks in nine Super Stop & Shop supermarkets in the Northeast to give shoppers a secure and convenient way to copy, save, share and personalize keys.

The kiosks from KeyMe aim to make frustrating and expensive lockouts a thing of the past by enabling customers to safely store a “digital copy” of their keys in the cloud.

The units can support most home, office and mailbox keys. They will also be able to copy car keys, both with transponder chips and those without. This is the first time car keys have ever been able to be copied at a self-service kiosk, according to KeyMe.   

The kiosks are integrated with a free mobile app, creating a seamless multi-platform experience. Keys can be saved via the iOS app, then accessed and printed at a kiosk in the event of a lockout.  An Android app is set to be released in the coming months. 

To access a digitally-saved key at a kiosk, a customer scans a fingerprint to verify identity. Then any saved key can be printed in under 30 seconds. These saved keys can also be shared with family and friends via email at both the kiosk and through the mobile app. 

Additional kiosk features include a completely redesigned user interface and more personalization options. Keys start at $2.49 and vary based on the type of key.
